Mesquite Hall of Honor

MIKE FORD

Mesquite High School Football, Class of 1977

Mike Ford is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Mesquite High School history. In 1974, he led the Skeeters to an 11-3-1 record and the program’s first district championship. Ford guided Mesquite to the state playoffs and a berth in the Class 4A state championship game, where the Skeeters finished as state runners-up.

Ford continued his success at Southern Methodist University, becoming one of the most prolific quarterbacks in Mustang history. He ranks among SMU’s all-time leaders in passing attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. As a sophomore, he led the nation in both total offense and passing yards and entered his junior season as a Heisman Trophy candidate. Following his collegiate career, Ford was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1981 NFL Draft and went on to play two seasons in the NFL.
