DOUG ROBINSON
Poteet High School Cross Country & Boys Track
Doug Robinson dedicated nearly four decades to Mesquite ISD athletics, building a legacy of excellence as a coach, mentor, and championship leader. From 1974 to 2013, he coached at Mesquite, West Mesquite, and Poteet High Schools, achieving success at every stop and helping elevate Mesquite ISD’s reputation in cross-country and track and field. Robinson made history by leading Mesquite ISD’s first-ever UIL team state championship when his Poteet High School cross-country team captured the state title. During the 1990s, his programs won three UIL state cross-country championships, establishing Poteet as one of Texas’ premier distance-running programs. His teams also earned state runner-up finishes in 2003, 2007, and 2008, along with third-place finishes in 1992, 2000, and 2006.
In addition to his cross-country success, Robinson guided the Poteet boys track and field program for 24 years, leading the team to a third-place finish at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in 2004 and coaching multiple individual state champions. His impact on Mesquite ISD athletics was previously recognized when his state championship cross-country teams were inducted into the Mesquite ISD Hall of Honor in 2019.
