For decades, Ed Johnson has been another familiar and trusted voice for Mesquite ISD athletics fans, serving the district as an educator, coach, and broadcaster. Since beginning his career with Mesquite ISD in the 1970s, Johnson has made a lasting impact on generations of students and athletes. From 1970 to 1976, he taught mathematics at North Mesquite High School while serving as an assistant football coach and head baseball coach. After a successful stint as head football coach at First Baptist Academy in Dallas, where he earned Dallas Morning News Private School Coach of the Year honors, Johnson returned to Mesquite ISD in 1979. He continued his service as an assistant football coach and teacher at Mesquite High School before becoming a cooperative education teacher, a role he held until 1999.
Beyond the classroom and athletic fields, Johnson has become one of the most recognizable ambassadors for Mesquite ISD athletics.
