POTEET HIGH SCHOOL BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
State Champions (1990/1991/1993)
Poteet High School opened in 1989, already armed with a group of talented, highly motivated cross-country athletes. The team took seventh place in state in 1989, the year that started a nine-year run for Poteet of district and regional cross-country championships. In 1990, the team was tied at the state championship until the Pirates’ sixth runner outsprinted his opponent by a half step in an exciting finish to secure the team’s first state win. Led by Coach Doug Robinson, the Pirates captured two more state championships in 1991 and 1993, and a bronze medal for third place in 1992.
