Poteet High School Baseball Coach

Ted Nowell Jr. served as the head baseball coach at Poteet High School, building one of the area’s most successful and respected programs during his tenure. Over 15 seasons, he compled an outstanding 373-174 overall record and guided the Pirates to the playoffs in 12 seasons. His teams captured six district championships and advanced to the regional finals three times, reflecting a consistent standard of excellence on the field. For his leadership and success, Nowell was named Area Coach of the Year twice and earned District Coach of the Year honors eight times.

While his impressive record and championship accomplishments helped establish Poteet as a perennial contender, those who played for Nowell remember him most for the impact he made beyond the scoreboard. A fierce competitor and tireless coach, he instilled those same qualities in his players, teaching them the value of discipline, perserverance, and accountability. His passion for baseball extended far beyond the game itself, as he used the lessons found on the diamond to prepare young people for life’s challenges. Through his dedication to student-athletes and the game of baseball, Nowell made a lasting impact on Poteet High School and Mesquite ISD athletics.
