North Mesquite High School Head Football Coach

Makr Elam served as the head football coach at North Mesquite High School, where he led the resurgence of the school’s football program and established a culture of excellence and determination. Under his leadership, the Stallions rose to national prominence during the historic 1996 season, earning recognition as the No. 1 high school football team in both the state of Texas and the nation. The team completed an undefeated regular season and captured the attention of the high school football world through its dominance and competitive spirit. 

During his tenure at North Mesquite, Elam guided the Stallions to some of the most successful seasons in program history, including deep playoff runs and state quarterfinal appearances that were the furthest postseason advancements the school had achieved at the time. His ability to develop student-athletes, build strong teams, and foster a winning culture elevated North Mesquite football to new heights and created a lasting standard of excellence for future generations. Elam’s coaching career spanned multiple decades and numerous Texas communities. In addition to his time at North Mesquite, he served students and athletes in Dublin, Wall, Abilene, Rockwall, Garland, San Angelo Central and Brenham, where he was inducted into the Hall of Honor in recognition of his contributions to athletics. Throughout his distinguished career, Elam earned a reputation as a respected leader and mentor across the state.
