Poteet High School/John Horn High School Licensed Athletic Trainer

Sarah “Wolfie” Wolfskill served Mesquite ISD for 27 years as a dedicated licensed athletic trainer at both Poteet and John Horn High Schools. Throughout her career, she played a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and success of countless student-athletes, earning the respect of colleagues, coaches, and students across the district. Wolfskill began her career in MISD as an assistant athletic trainer at North Mesquite High School from 1979 to 1984 before returning to the district following graduate studies to serve as a teacher and later as head athletic trainer at Poteet High School from 1986 to 2005. She continued her career as head athletic trainer at Royse City High School before returning to Mesquite ISD as head athletic trainer at John Horn High School, where she served until her retirement in 2010. Among her many professional accomplishments, Wolfskill made history in 2004 as the first woman inducted into the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (SWATA) Hall of Fame, a prestigious honor recognizing her outstanding contributions and lasting impact on the athletic training profession. Throughout her career, she has also served on numerous SWATA and National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) committees, and provided athletic training services for Texas Special Olympics athletes, further demonstrating her dedication to serving athletes at all levels.

Retirement did not mark the end of her contributions to athletics. Since 2010, Wolfskill has continued working as a contract athletic trainer for smaller schools and programs, including helping Dallas Lutheran High School capture a state championship in 2017. Her trailblazing career, commitment to excellence, and service to student-athletes have left an enduring legacy in Mesquite ISD and throughout the athletic training community.
