2001 MESQUITE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM

2001 was dubbed “The Year of the Skeeters” by local author and Mesquite ISD former employee Joe Flowers, and for good reason. It took a special team to go 15-0 and clinch the 5A Division I State Championship – it was unprecedented then and hasn’t been done since. Under the leadership of former Coach Steve Halpin, the Skeeters’ championship year was exhilarating not only for Mesquite High School but for the entire city of Mesquite.
